Could induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame be enough to finally reunite the original lineup of Guns N' Roses? The band will be eligible in 2013, 25 years after the release of their debut album Appetite For Destruction. While guitarist Slash told Billboard.com he'd be sure to show up, he's not certain what else might happen: "I have no idea how that's supposed to go. If Axl (Rose, singer), Duff (McKagan, bassist), Izzy (Stradlin, guitarist) and myself start communicating, it could go one way. If we don't, God knows."
Slash added that he would have been a Guns fan even if he was never in the band, explaining, "Guns N' Roses was all the really great bands I was turned onto as a kid. If I hadn't been in Guns it would have been my favorite band."
He also theorized on why the band has remained popular despite the break-up of the original group, saying, "There was something about the honesty of Axl's lyrics and the energy of the music people related to. It was a phenomenon."
KEITH RICHARDS LIKENS 'EXILE ON MAIN STREET' TO A JIGSAW PUZZLE
Keith Richards says that compiling any album -- but especially the Rolling Stones' sprawling Exile On Main Street -- is akin to putting together a massive puzzle. Last month the band's deluxe reissue of the legendary double set debuted at Number Two on The Billboard 200.
Richards talks about the album in the bonus features of the new Stones In Exile DVD and explains that like most of the Stones albums, the recording and tracklisting for the set came about organically: "We never even intended for it to be a double album until finally we sort of run out of (laughs) songs and finally said, 'Well, there's too much for one album, but there's too much . . . y'know, we can't cut this baby up.' So we decided to go for the double. Sometimes it's the hardest part of making albums that -- 'Okay, what order do the songs come in? And you kind of get used to listening to them like jumbling them up kind of thing and saying, 'Well that works nice off of that.' And you kind of work it like that -- like a jigsaw puzzle."
